Character History: Many years before the Great War on Cybertron between the Autobots and the Decepticons flared, Skyfire was a scientist. Along with his friend and working partner, Starscream, he studied Planetary Science, while the latter focused on energy research.
Shortly before the final falling-out between the two factions of their home world, Skyfire and Starscream went on a mission to an uninhabited planet - Earth. After detecting no intelligent life on the surface, Skyfire insisted that they take a closer look. Reluctantly, Starscream followed. The two Cybertronain jets were caught up in a polar windstorm. Skyfire, separated from his comrade, was plunged beneath the ice, where he stayed for millions of years while the war raged on. Eventually, the Autobots and Decepticons brought their battle to Earth.
During one of their more bizarre schemes, the Decepticons traveled to the South Pole to drain Earth (once again) of energy. There they discovered Skyfire, still locked in his icy tomb. Starscream eagerly thawed his companion out. After an awkward exchange and induction into the Decepticon forces, Skyfire was caught up in something he didn’t care to understand, more interested in his studies than fighting a war that had little to do with him. However, he went along to please Starscream. When he expressed desire to protect humans and refused to destroy a group of Autobots, Starscream shot him and left him for dead.
Luckily for Skyfire, the Autobot medic, Ratchet, was able to repair him. Skyfire in turn declared his loyalty to the Autobots, though he still had a strong distaste for fighting. After a skirmish with Starscream, Skyfire made a last ditch attempt to stop the ‘Cons from draining Earth of its energy, in turn, ending up buried in ice. Again. The Autobots simply left him there, counting it as his grave.
Until they needed a ride. At which point they thawed him back out and he was forever the Autobot chauffeur for the rest of his part in the war, occasionally having run-ins with his old friend Starscream. For the most part, he was merely a mode of transport due to his flight capability and sheer size.
Character Personality: First and foremost, Skyfire is a scientist. Fascinated by planetary science and meteorology, the large Cybertronian jet would like nothing more than to indulge in furthering science and learning. For the most part, he prefers to remain a neutral party, with a strong distaste for violence. However, when push comes to shove, he can hold his own quite well (it’s rumored that he is actually the fastest of the Aerialbots on the Autobot forces.) He’s capable and responsible: reasonable fellow with strong morals and a relaxed attitude. He can also be incredibly dorky when left to his own devices. Likely due to his years spent alone in a lab or on the move exploring planets, the jet can often present himself as a bit socially slow, making bad puns, laughing at his own jokes and everything in between. He’s quite matter-of-fact when it comes to life, though, and when he’s called on in a crisis, he always delivers.
Amongst other things, Skyfire is a skeptic: a hardwired atheist, or agnostic at best. He refuses to believe in the Cybertronian ‘God’, called Primus, or Unicron (the robotic equivalent of the Devil). Although both blatantly exist, he turns a blind optic to it, demanding absolute proof before anything else. To him, there are no divine forces, only evolution, science and cold, hard, fact. It’s probably the only subject he can boarder on unreasonable about.
Otherwise, he’s probably one of the more agreeable faces as far as bots go. A loyal friend, a hard worker, good morals with a responsible, reasonable personality.
On the more serious side of things, Skyfire has developed a decent fear of large bodies of water, as well as arctic conditions. He prefers to avoid snowy weather at all costs to the point of holing up inside his own home and refusing to come out. It's a fear that stemmed from being locked under the ice for so long, being aware as he froze and went into stasis, only to wake up into a war. He has a strong sense of right and wrong, and has no qualms about doing what he views as "good", however he also has a very logical side that plays a large part of his decisions as well. He likes to have options, time to make decisions and a stable environment in which he can think. Obviously he's rarely if ever granted these blessings, so he's learned to think on his feet.
While he is first and foremost a scientist, he is not incapable of battle. A function that he had to assume after his sudden reintroduction to the world several millions of years after he fell into the arctic and froze. He made the transition from science to war, but nit very easily. He was always reluctant to fight, particularly when Starscream requests he attack a troop of unarmed Autobots. He refuses outright. He refuses to kill anyone. While he does have sharp aim with an energy rifle, it's really a moot point for him. He aims to wound or warn, if at all. Overall, if he can get away with wrestling someone into submission, he'd rather do it that way. Because of his sheer size, it's not difficult to overpower someone without harming them.
Powers: Uh. He can fly. Transform. All the basics of your basic shuttle. He also DUN GUD SCIENCE.
Samples
First person: [Guess who just got out of processing. He looks only vaguely impatient, not anywhere close to annoyed, though. This bot has the patience of a saint (though he'd resent that terminology) luckily.]
Well this is... something, alright.
[Understatement number one.]
I believe I'm a bit. A bit at a loss for words.
[Understatement number two.]
My name is Skyfire.
Let it be noted that my name is not, Jetfire, as seems to be a common mistake that has already cropped up several times in the past few megacycles.
I suppose It'd be rather brash of me to assume anyone I know is here, but if anyone would be helpful enough to... point me towards the library? I find I am in great need of some place quiet to get myself sorted.
Third Person: The datapads are a familiar weight in his hands, at the very least. He just selected a few to sit down with. He's not even sure if he really can focus enough to read right now, but for the sake of appearances, he has a small stack of them at the table he's occupying (dominating would be more like it). The whole setup is much too small for a mech his size, but the bigger tables had been occupied.
He stares into the translucent blue, the writing just scrolls right by him. No focus, as he thought.
What is he going to do now? It's... sadly. Not like he's really lost much. Hasn't much to go back to. As nice as the Autobots are to haven taken him in- he knew they didn't really trust him. Sure, maybe Perceptor, but he had a terrible bias. Starscream was a murderous psychopath. Sadly, now that he looks back on it, he should have seen it coming ten miles away.
"Well..." He says to himself.
"I started off with nothing and I still have most of it left." Usually he was so optimistic. Being caught in this Nexus just really. Cemented the realization. No doubt he'd find a way to be on top of the world again soon. He was always like that. Just keep going, no matter how bad things were. Just. Keep going.
Maybe it was avoidance, he wondered.
He'd rather not think about it, which kind of answered his question.
At least he could only go up from here...
"Hey! Jetfire! Where have you been!" Some mech calls to him, waving. Skyfire simply rests his face in his hands. The mech pauses, looks at his, squinting his optics.
"Oh. Sorry, buddy."
Never mind.
No matter how low you are, you can always start digging.
